Caltrans 2124 idles on track 3 at San Jose Diridon. 2124 and sister 2123 are the newest units owned by the state, having been built after the final Pacific Surfliner Charger in 2018-2019. The addition of these units allowed Caltrans to retire two of the 15 F59PHIs currently in service. The other 13 units, which were rebuilt to Tier 2 compliance in 2009, will be rebuilt again to Tier 4 emission standards sometime in the future. |

Caltrans 2124 leads a southbound Capitol Corridor train into San Jose Diridon. The Siemens Charger was built in 2020 to supplement a previous order of 22 units. These units, numbered 2101-2122, are assigned to the Pacific Surfliner, Capitol Corridor, and San Joaquin trains, operated by the State of California. 2124 and sister unit 2123 bring the total number of California DOT Chargers to 24, and operate on the San Joaquin and Capitol Corridor trains. |
