PRR 559, L-1S, 1957
Marianchuk. Here is an original color photo (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken near the Roundhouse in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, on 20 October 1957. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #559, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during November of 1914 and retired in August of 1959 after 45 years of faithful service. Note the Fireman on the tender's deck filling the reservoir in preparation for powering a railfan excursion. "Fill 'er up, Mack!"
