PRR 3747, K-4S, 1955
Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Manasquan, New Jersey, in July of 1955. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3747, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during March of 1920 and retired in November of 1957 after 37 years of faithful service. In addition to the signals, note the "whistle" sign with a five crossings-in-a-row indicator. ("VDF"; #3 of 7)

Mike Woodruff General Pretty sure this "VDF" series of photos was taken down on the NY&LB - note that the signals are not typical PRR position lights. One of the photos has a sign pointing to "Manasquan Beach" - no way this would be anywhere near Rutherford. I suspect these pics were taken in the Point Pleasant/Brielle/Manasquan/Sea Girt area. 7/18/2019 1:40:30 PM
