Big power for the spur  Contributor's Pick!
Conrail never ran anything bigger than a GP 40 on the Vestal Spur, the remnant of the DLW main through Johnson City and a short distance into Vestal. Most of the traffic was coal for NYSEGs Goudy Station. NS did a major tie replacement and surfacing in late 2002, which improved conditions markedly, though they were using C40-8s there right from the start. Todays power is a western visitor, a UP SD 70MAC, a unit intended for more serious endeavors. Oh well-whatever gets the coal there. It has a cut for Goudy on the spur, rolling past another cut on the three pocket.
