PRR SLOPE Tower, 1965
Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here is an East-facing view from the 24th Street Bridge. Visible on the left is SLOPE Tower. The 12th Street Shops are visible in the middle distance. In olden days, there was a locomotive turntable immediately across the tracks from the Tower ~ where the weed patch is in this photo. The long open area to the right of the signal bridge was once filled with fired-up steam locomotives, waiting to push heavy trains up the Alleghenies.
