The Mount Vernon Terminal Rwy was formed in 1939 when it took over about 2.5 miles of track from the Pacific Northwest Traction line. It currently operates several hundred yards of track with two industries and car storage for revenue. A roughly 1-mile stretch that ran south through town to a cold storage facility was abandoned in 2005. This shot looks northeast into its 'yard'; the BNSF (BN, GN) main to Vancouver BC runs to the right. Interstate 5 crosses the line immediately behind the photographer; the engine house is in its shadow. |
