MP GP40 645
Missouri Pacific Railroad GP40 645 at Cotter, Arkansas on August 25, 1988, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 645 was built in April 1970 as CRI&P GP40 4714 ( c/n 36400 ), owned by the UP and leased to the Rock Island. When the RI folded, the leased GP40's ( 51 of the original 60 ) were returned to the UP and put into storage, but not before receiving UP paint and numbers. By 1984 traffic demands on the MP activated some of the stored units, and some were repainted for the MP, this unit on February 20, 1985. From October 1989 to January 1990 it was leased to NdeM, returned to the UP after being wrecked, relettered from MP 645 to UP 645 and stored unservicable. It was retired October 23, 1991, sold to National Railway Equipment, re-sold to the M&NA, becoming MNA 645.
