Here is page 18 of a 28-page booklet entitled "Rail Guide To The Horseshoe Curve." It was published originally in 1976 by PC Publications of East McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Photo Caption: "The eastbound 'National Limited' starts into the Horseshoe Curve just as it passes the helper engines of a westbound freight ascending the east slope of the Alleghenies. Photo by Bill Metzger." Prominent here is Penn Central engine #6186, an SD45 built by GM-EMD for the Pennsylvania Railroad as number "6186" in December of 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower. Also visible are PC cabooses #23624 and #22983; the latter is ex-PRR N-5E cabin car #477594. |
