PRR 5597, BS-7M, 1960 |
Description: |
Good Day. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1960. Shown here are two PRR trains, both of which are moving West toward the Bedford Street Crossing. The train in the foreground has locomotives both front and rear, and is headed up the New Portage Branch Line to Gallitzin and points West. The train in the background is headed (R to L) by PRR engines #5597 and #5595. Both are BS-7M's built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1950 and rated at 750 horsepower each; they are pulling the daily "Cumberland Local" to Altoona. This photo was taken at the Juniata River Railroad Bridge, near Bedford Street and the Passenger Station. #10 of 12. |

PRR 5600, BS-7M, 1964 |
Description: |
BWCX. Here is an original photo that I took at the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 24 March 1964. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5600, a BS-7M switcher built by Baldwin in 1950 and rated at 750 horsepower. It is shifting newly-painted TrailerTrain flatcar #550453, an ACF F-89. Since the driving wheels on the steam locomotive called "Nancy" kept slipping off, it became necessary to procure a replacement. This Diesel locomotive was "pinch-hitting" until a replacement was found. |
