L&N CNX
Title:  L&N CNX
Description:  On the Sunday before Christmas 1964 Louisville & Nashville EXTRA 661 SOUTH was entering the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal EASTERN CONNECTION at East City Junction. For many years the L&N operated southbound CNX - and northbound NCX - mail and express extras between Cincinnati and New Orleans during the Christmas Season. These trains were typically 15-20 cars long and ran with a caboose. The tracks on the left belonged to the Southern Railway's New Orleans Terminal Co., and that was East City Tower on the extreme left. The train was four miles from its destination at NOUPT, and the photo was taken with a plastic Kodak STARMETER camera.

L&N FP7 666
Title:  L&N FP7 666
Description:  Louisville & Nasville locomotives stopped visiting the diesel shop at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal on a regular basis with the advent of Amtrak on 1 May 1971; but the railroad continued to send power to NOUPT every now and then. These units usually needed traction motor replacements, something which could not be done at the railroad's Gentilly Yard. Here we see FP7 666 sticking out of the NOUPT shop, one year after the beginning of Amtrak. The unit was retired about a year and a half later, in November 1973. (approximate month and day)

L&N FP7 667
Title:  L&N FP7 667
Description:  Louisville & Nashville FP7 667 was parked at GENTILLY YARD, on the east side of New Orleans. The locomotive had been built in December 1951 and was one of 10 such units (663-672) equipped with both Automatic Train Control and Automatic Train Stop equipment. (650-662 had ATS only.) ATS was in operation on the line between Mobile and New Orleans from April 1927 until 30 September 1965, and this required specially-equipped locomotives such as this one. The 667 was retired in February 1969.

Title:  LN FP7 #670 - Louisville & Nashville

It's wearing the cost cutting but unattractive basic black paint scheme designated for freight use but a faint image of the former MP nose logo can be seen peaking through the paint.
