GMN 2-10-0 #261 - Gulf, Mobile & Northern |
Description: |
Here is a rare photo of the Baldwin 2-10-0 decapod #261 built in October of 1926 for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern. The class started as coal burners but were converted to oil later. A few like this one were retrofitted with a second sand dome and a Coffin style feedwater heater, often referred to as a "cobra hood" in the front. Original Specs - serial #59610, class 250, 57" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 25x30" cylinders, engine weight of 253,730 lb, tractive effort of 62,911 lb. R.P.Morris photo. |
