Heading up the Amtrak/Illlinois Dept of Transportation Saluki is a Siemens Charger SC-44 unit, my first photograph of one. The unit looks very similar to the European Siemens and Alstom models with the curved front windshield and sleek markings. With a Cummins prime mover QSK95, the Amtrak SC-44 units built for the Midwest has a maximum speed of 125 mph. |
