Description:
100 years of Lötschberg: With the increasing volume of traffic in the 1950s on the Lötschberg route and the increase of the trailer load on the 27 ‰-ramps to 900 t many pre-or intermediate services were required. The solution chosen by the BLS for the reduction of these services provided for a fixed connected double locomotive, which basically consists of two permanently coupled Ae 4/4. 1956 was the first order of the powerful 6475 kW Ae 8/8, which in 5 units started operation 1959.
