Title:  CO 2-8-4 #2748 - Chesepeake & Ohio

CO 2-8-4 #2716 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Title:  CO 2-8-4 #2716 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:  Good looking 1944 Also built 2-8-4 Kanawha (C&O's name for Berkshires) pulls away from the coaling tower in the Cincinnati yard. In the background sits the reason for the demise of steam - an EMD diesel. However, this loco was one of the fortunate ones. It was saved from the scrapper's torch and currently is owned by the Kentucky Railroad Museum. It has been partially rebuilt for service as of 2001. Specs - K-4 class, 69" drivers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x34" cylinders, engine weight of 460,000 lb, tractive effort of 69.368 lb. C.W. Jernstrom photo

CO 2-8-4 #2701 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Title:  CO 2-8-4 #2701 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:  A note on the back states " "Chesapeake & Ohio 12-8-4 2701 K-4 on permanent display in Las Salle Park, Buffalo, NY now scrapped. 26x34 (cylinders), 69" (drivers), 245 (psi boiler pressure), 69,350 (lb tractive effort), Alco 1943." In 1954, the C&O donated 2701 to the city of Buffalo, NY. It was placed on display on a short stretch of track near the waterfront. 2701 had been on display for only one week and all of the glass was broken and everything that could be removed (short of using a torch) was removed. Souvenir-hunting vandals wrecked her so bad that 2701 had to be scrapped after being on display for only a few months! unknown photographer
